To clear up any misconceptions..

NO. Life doesn't suck right now. I'm incredibly busy with work constantly, my fluffy muppet thing is mad at me for cutting his toenails, and I'm having a fight with a friend. Despite all that, life is pretty good. I've got lots of good things going for me. I'm loving my job, stressful as it may be. I love my apartment, especially the fact that it's ALL MINE and that I can pretty much do what I want with it. I love my friends because let's face it.... they are fabulous. How did I get so lucky?

I've also decided to lose ten pounds by the end of February, which means I need to eat anything NOW that will tempt me later. So in losing the weight, I had two bowls of icecream throughout the day yesterday. I like this diet. Cough. Seriously though, I do need to lose ten pounds if for no other reason that my mother has extended a prize to the family that anyone who loses ten pounds by this date gets $50. And I really need the money ;)

I'm rereading the HP series and seeing things I never realized the first few times around, such as, "It wasn't the first time that Snape had given Harry the impression that he could read minds." Now, for an accomplished Legilimens like Snape, you'd think he'd just be reading Harry's mind all the time (which is perhaps why Harry didn't get in trouble for the whole Ms. Norris being petrified situation). But couldn't he also use his legilimency powers to find out what Harry was up to in other situations? Certainly in the second book Harry is hardly skilled at Occlumency...

I have been losing a lot of weight, and I have some tips for you:

During the week, eat oatmeal for breakfast, have some kind of snack 3 hours later (maybe a few slices of apple or a piece of celery with peanut butter, then for lunch have a piece of chicken, or a very lean hamburger, or tuna (some kind of protien), with a veggie (I like grape tomatoes, but sometimes I just go and eat hte other half of the apple), then have another snack 3 hours later (maybe a snack sized cottage cheese, or more celery -- something healthy!), and then have a nice dinner with a protein and maybe half a sweet potato, or one serving of brown rice.

Eat this way every single day, and then take one day on a weekend, say Friday at 7pm until Saturday at 7pm, and eat WHATEVER you want. A whole pie, a huge carton of ice cream... whatever. Go to your favorite restaurant and eat whatever you want. Get pizza. Make brownies! I usually splurge a little on Sunday too, but not quite as much.

Then, go back to being strict during the week. DO NOT give in to temptation during the week. I always remind myself that if I *really* want it, I can just have it on the weekend, and this helps me, because I know I can totally splurge and have whatever I want come Friday night.

Also, drink a LOT of water. I usually have at least 1 liter per day (two zephyrhills water bottles), also, green tea is said to help you lose weight, and I drink some kind of tea every day. I usually drink between 1 and 3 liters of water (mostly b/c my medication gives me cottonmouth, but it's good for you anyway).

Good luck! I think this is a great eating lifestyle to adopt, and I've kept with this diet ever since Thanksgiving, and it's really the longest I've been able to handle a diet without screwing up. I have lost about 15 pounds since Thanksgiving, most of it lost during December. If I can do it, you can do it!

I thought a lot of that was from your medication, which obviously is a bad idea for me to take specifically for weight loss!

Anyway, thanks for the tips. The problem is that I already eat really healthy foods -- with the exception of icecream because its an addiction -- all the time.

I just need to start eating breakfast, eat LESS (if not better) and exercise more.

I like Mom's idea for the challenge; I'm going for $50 too :)
