Before anyone thinks I'm a genius or even using available resources,
I'd like to thank my brother tevarin for giving me the
idea to connect to the internet from my computer via my cell phone.
Even if I could only use it after 9 pm (when my nights start) and on
weekends, thats a heck of a lot more internet than I currently have at
home, and seems like a fairly simple and cheap way to connect-- as
long as I don't then need an Internet Service Provider. I wonder if I
would need to get Mobile Web back on my phone.

I need computer-geek help. Eric, I'm looking at you. :-P And that's a
compliment!

I'm at work right now. I don't need to be, but I'm working a long day
today. Partially so I can get online. Partially because I feel guilty
for having the past two weeks off.

Yesterday was fun. I'm not going to take down Christmas trees for a
living, for sure, but it was fun. Also, Vivi, I got to check out
Tallahassee's World Market, and I learned exactly one thing: I cannot
afford anything there. Luckily, there wasn't that much that I wanted!
I was less impressed than I expected to be.

La de da. I should get back to work.

If you're connecting to the internet via your phone, you're either doing it via dialup or cell data transfer. With dialup, you'd still need an ISP of one sort or another. With data transfer, you'd need Mobile Web or some other plan.

okay. so paying $15/mo for my cell's Mobile Web is probably a better deal than having yet another bill with some other company like Net Zero or something, right?

Well, before you sign up for Mobile Web again, I'd find out if it actually will work, and how fast it is.

I forget... do you have a standard landline?

okay, that's what I thought.

You know, forget this idea. I'm looking at Verizon's site. Mobile Web is entirely different from the other kind of data transfer, apparently. And those plans are rather expensive.

He probably had some additional plan that enabled that.

it was just sprint's unlimited data transfer, and then we bought some sort of program that we installed on my laptop that was specific to his phone. I think that program may have had some dial-up numbers that came with it? maybe? though that doesnt make sense that there wouldn't be a monthly fee, and there wasnt.

I still think you should try leeching DSL/Cable from nearby Wireless Routers. Bring a laptop with a wireless card over to your place, or borrow an adapter from someone else to test and see if you can find internet in the air, before you sign up for *shudder* dialup.

I already did that. I already told you about it in person. I already posted about it.

Ooh, another idea. Check with your work. A lot of the time, county schools/state/etc give their employees free dialup access through the school/work ISP.

you didn't fall for the charms of World Market?? But the furniture is so pretty! Did you see all the food from all over the world? The little Chinese boxes and jangly balls? the furry rugs? the kitchen supplies? I don't get it.

I liked the furniture, but I'm not really in the buying-furniture market. I also liked their martini glasses. thats about it.
