I might want to start a program to help ex-prisoners get housing/jobs when they get out.

(this was stemmed from Shawshank Redemption and a certain lawyer friend saying they didn't have programs like the half-way house here in Tally-ho)

Naomi had a similar job over the summer. In her case at least, it was *seriously* tough. Ex-prisoners often have mental health issues, drug addiction issues. They don't show up for appointments, they try to scam you for money. In some cases you run the risk of getting physically assaulted. Sometimes the housing and/or jobs just aren't available.

If you were doing a volunteer program where you could pick and choose and arbitrarily kick clients out for such behavior, you might have an easier time, but it still would help to have a lot of backup, close relations with the police, prisons, local organizations, etc.

There already are a few programs like that in Tallahassee. Mercy House is the first I think of. They're residential group homes for recently released prisoners, and they get treatment, job help, stuff like that. Maybe you can volunteer/work there or something.
There's a web page of resources for things like that...I've seen it from a couple of my Criminology classes. I'll see if I can find it...
