Okay, I admit it, I'm Ms. Compulsive Away Message Checker. I check people's away messages that I haven't even talked to in years. And I just checked Jake's. As in Jacob, my first college-boyfriend. I didn't know that it would actually hurt, almost three years after we broke up, to see "i <3 britt" (a girl he's been dating for about a year). I hold no claims on Jake. I think he's an interesting person, but I'm certainly no longer attached to him in any way. So why is it so weird? This is not rhetorical!

I'm glad I am not the only one who does that! Moreso being irked by an old love's new interest for no good reason. So I understand completely! I do however also experience the compulsive away message checking!! I change mine about a thousand times a night too! I think I have over 25 away messages...so tough to decide which one to use! haha.

When you date someone, you form an emotional attachment. It doesn't really go away when you leave them...it just changes.

I dated a girl for three years in high school, Brandy. The first time we broke up, I didn't think I loved her anymore. She AND her new boyfriend asked me if I was okay with their dating (not sure what I could DO about it but it was nice of them). I was, but I was still a touch jealous. After the THIRD time we broke up and acknowledged it was over, we were still very good friends because we had that connection. It was still weird for me to hear that she got married and had a child, because that was the life WE had planned. Even if I was happilly involved with Becky, that was a little unusual.
