Update on Utilities & Home Improvement

So remember how I had been using exorbitant amounts of water? I had my first utility bill that included a whole month after getting my flapper in my toilet fixed, and I only used 1800 gallons of water! Yay! So I'm well under the average and can count myself back in as a conservationist.

My electricity bill was also a bit lower, making May 2008 bill my lowest ever. Odd, since I never use my heater and DO use my A/C often.

As for solar paneling, it doesn't make sense to do financially with the panels costing what they cost. It would of course make sense, conservation-wise, but I don't have an extra $2000 to not earn back. The panels are about to get much cheaper and better, however, and when they do you can assume I'll be first in line. I'm still working on other ways to save energy, though. I'm going to get a good, energy-saving washer and dryer when I can, a new water heater (the one I have is 26 years old, but works fine. I was told to "wait for it to not work").

I'm also, now, getting more insulation (going from an R-19 to an R-38, if that means anything to you), and I'm getting my ductwork fixed up a bit for my sun room.

It feels good to be getting all of these things done. I think I'm also going to paint my hallway today. I'll just be painting off-white on top of off-white, but the paint is currently just older and ugly-ish, so I want to re-coat it. And soon I'm going to do my bathroom! Bye bye wallpaper (gross). I think I'm going to do burnt orange paint. It'll look pretty, and isn't going to clash. Plus it's a new color to add to my house's current colors! (Dark red, green, pink, blue, off-white). I really like the idea of bright rooms :)
