My life is so full of havoc. Katrina is hitting me harder than I ever thought it would. I'm going to go with the Red Cross the weekend of the sixteenth to Mobile, AL to help with relief efforts. If I had any money to donate, I would. I don't have much TIME, but what time I do have I'm going to donate as well, if theres something I can do here in Tallahassee.
It really hurts how little some people care, although I see my abundance of care as an annoyance occasionally. I think it's awfully unfair to think what happened with Katrina with the phrase "shit happens." Yes, there IS something you can do about it. Even if it's a simple cash donation to the red cross.
I spent the better part of tonight crying.
My clothes are still in my parents dryer. The washer and dryer here don't work, and I haven't had time until tonight (and not really time now, either) to do my laundry. It desperately needed to be done. I have to wear jeans (nice jeans, but jeans nonetheless) to work tomorrow because all my khakis/black pants/skirts are dirty.
My literacy fair is falling behind, I don't have what I need. I have a ton to do. And I'm scared silly by it all.
Gas is being rationed wherever you go. Its up to about $3.00/gallon in Tallahassee, and you can't buy more than $20, about seven gallons. People are being urged not to travel. Obviously a sixteen hour car trip wouldn't be the best of ideas. There's maybe a ten percent chance that we are going. I won't have my hopes up.
I was just cheered up immensely, though, by a message from Indira on my facebook wall:
SPECIAL THANKS GOES TO MELISSA ABRAMS WHO HAS BEEN UNIMAGINABLY GENEROUS AND SUPPORTIVE TO ME THIS PAST YEAR, WHOSE SIMPLE FAITH IN HUMANITY IS AN INSPIRATION TO ME AND WHOM I AM BOTH GRATEFUL AND HONORED TO CALL A FRIEND.
