First Day

I knew parking garages filled up early, but I didn't think I'd need to leave my house more than two hours early. Seriously. Because today I left two hours early, and the garage near my class was full. Why then, do they let people into it? There was a long line in front of me that had to turn around, and a longer line behind me that would have to. Can't they monitor when the garage fills up so that people don't have to waste TWENTY MINUTES going through the maze? I parked in the garage near my second class, so not all was lost. I never thought I'd want to see more parking garages. How many trees am I willing to give up for educational convenience? More than yesterday.

So now I'm sitting in my Latin class and I've realized I forgot my notebooks in the car. I'm going to have to go by there before my next class. Hopefully the two sheets of slightly-crumpled notebook paper will suffice for this morning. For whatever reason I don't want to take notes on my laptop. Unless almost everyone is doing it. I don't want to be that person. I hate that person. Besides, I can't afford distractions. This class is going to kick my butt. I haven't taken Latin in eight years.

This building is very old and seems to lack A/C. Gross.

I'm strongly considering dropping C++. I really don't feel like working as hard as I'd have to in there. But that just means I'd be putting it off for next semester, which puts three programming courses in one term, and I don't think I'd be able to handle that either.

If it makes any difference, I can help with understanding C++ and related topics during the semester.

Weeeee. Can you help my TA not suck? :(

(Note: that's TA. Not T&A)

I honestly think more people drive the first day than on subsequent days. I'm heading to campus in about 45 minutes and I fully expect one, if not both, of the parking garages I will pass on the way to be full. This (and the expense) are why I bike. Have you considered biking or taking StarMetro?

I live about five miles away from campus. and I get really really sweaty. so biking is not the best idea. I may look into the bus, but I also like to run errands on my way home. It's probably easier to just deal with the parking.

I rode the bus pretty much all the time my second year in Athens and then would use my car to run errands as needed. I liked it a lot plus being on the bus gave me time to read novels for fun. I've got a friend here that rides the bus to work and uses that time to read magazines. Plus, isn't the bus free for FSU students?

yes, it's free. However, there's no way I could read on it - Not unless I found an awesome motion sickness relief (and I am trying).

Your experience with college parking structures is typical, and I've run into it since the '70s. A college parking permit is really a parking space hunting license in most places. :-)

Somebody mentioned that the worst days will be the first days of the term, and it will hopefully slacken a bit after that.

Yup. People will stop coming to class :) I love that!

(I used to be one of those)

What would be the three simultaneous programming courses? It might not be that bad.

The point is now moot because I don't have the pre-req. Can't take it now anyway. Don't really feel like taking MAC1105. Yuck.

I hate parking garages. They make me sick.
Aug. 24th, 2009 06:38 pm (UTC)
literally, like motion sick? or the fact that they exist/take up space/obliterate trees?
Aug. 24th, 2009 06:51 pm (UTC)
motion sick. I get so dizzy! And it takes forever to go up and down. We have one at work, but I park in the flat lot, even though it is farther away.
Aug. 24th, 2009 06:52 pm (UTC)
as for them existing, as long as there is a need for it, I think they are good -- and obliterate fewer trees than flat lots. I like it when *other* people park in garages. :)

I warned you. You can't say I didn't.
Aug. 24th, 2009 08:37 pm (UTC)
You said eight or eight thirty!
Aug. 24th, 2009 10:58 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I lied. I was really going to leave at 6.
