I am boring.

I got Quicken. I am now obsessed. More than I was before. This makes me boring. This adds to my other boringness. Let's check out the top five things Melissa spends money on (over the past three months, which is as much history is in there)

1. Mortgage
2. Education
3. Groceries
4. Auto (car payments + gas + insurance)
5. Utilities (Light/Electric but not Cable-- that's in "Entertainment")

That's 69% of my income, on those five things. And that doesn't even count the other boring stuff I do, like Pest Control and A/C fixing.

=boring.

I am similarly obsessed. I know that Quicken gets info from your bank account, but I have a couple of questions.
Can you have it exclude certain transactions? For instance, I used to cover my expenses for work [office supplies, errands, etc], and then was reimbursed. Is there a way to 'uncheck' those expenses and income?
Also, if you take cash out of the bank/ATM, is there a way to divvy up the stuff you spent the cash on?

I have my credit card and my bank account in there, so when I pay off my credit card, it acted like I p[aid it twice.. until I realized there's a "transfer in" and "transfer out" -- which yes, excludes transactions.

You can enter transactions that aren't from your bank account. And then you could count the cash as a transfer?

Sucks to be a grown-up :)

I think I put more into retirement than groceries. That should get double boring points.

This doesn't count retirement, because that comes straight out of my paycheck, I never see it. But judging by my Merrill Lynch site, it'd fall at # 4

Plug.
I seem to remember you saying something about loving Quicken for some reason, so I thought I'd share a new find with you:
Mint.
It's free and secure and keeps track of everything.
Everything.

Re: Plug.
Nope. It doesn't work with ING direct. I spent weeks being frustrated. If it did, it would be fabulous, so thanks for letting me know :)

Quicken Online is free. It claims to be 2.95 a month but I've never paid. And if they charge me at the end of the year, so be it. I love it.
