Oh yes, chickadees. Melissa doesn't sit around doing nothing on MLK DAY! A great man made a difference, and I strive to make an important, influential and wonderful difference daily.
So I continued my tradition from the last several years, and yesterday on my DAY ON, I picked up litter at Tom Brown Park! I hate seeing parks so carelessly littered upon, so I was glad to lend a hand.
I took Padfoot and Jack and we spent some time in the dog park, too. I never saw Jack so happy! At first he was a little shy, but he warmed up quickly and was playing with the rest of them in no time. Padfoot didn't get a chance to play King of the Dog Park (read: jump onto the picnic table and bark out orders to the dogs), and he didn't even get lucky, as he normally does... but both dogs had a great time.
Last night I went to Publix for the first time in weeks! I mean, I've gotten small things there, picking up stuff to make for dinner, but this was the first HARDCORE grocery shopping I've done in quite awhile (probably because it was my first weekend in quite awhile that I wasn't out of town or having guests or otherwise very busy). I spent $155. BUT I got lots of things for meals, lots of things on sale, and Flipsides pretzel/crackers*, because I can. I'm terribly excited about cooking dinner and having food to eat, in general.
Sunday night my friend Gay!Matt was in town, and I hadn't seen him in over a year (though we talk on the phone for a couple hours every few weeks). He came over and we hung out, which was really awesome. I really miss Gay!Matt and I really want him to move back to Tallahassee (sucks that he has a great job in Tampa, huh). We just have such a good time together and have great arguments. No one can argue like Melissa and Gay!Matt. And of course his eyebrows were perfect as usual.
Sunday afternoon I got to do one of my favorite pasttimes - certamen practice. Sunday afternoon after Sunday School/USY/Tu B'Shevat seder, Deborah and I went to a Latin II kid's house, and I quizzed everyone on Certamen questions.
I don't think they're quite ready for the Adv. questions I was holding, so after a bit of those, I came up with my own awesome questions. I'm not sure that the grammar is entirely important, at least not as much as loving the language and the culture. We went over lots of myth/customs that won't necessarily be in Certamen, but will be great for the written tests.
Regional Latin Forum is Feb 2! I'm a bit crazily excited about this. It will be my (wait for it... wait for it...) TENTH Regional Forum. And my prize is that I get to go. Again, crazy!excited. Oh, and Deborah's teacher told me to call her Jenna, so that's.. confusing. She's only like two years older than me and we have mutual friends, but it's totally weird. That's like calling
Continuing backwards through the weekend...
Saturday I went to Dillard's and bought some pretty dresses. The store is now closed forever, and I have some awesome new
Friday night was game night at Bobby & Jen's. We were covered in babies. Liam, Cohen, Savannah. All cute. All loud. Friends having children is the best birth control. We played Guesstures, which was AWESOME (GIRLS WIN!) and then they played the SceneIt game for Pirates of the Caribbean. Which I haven't seen, at all. Of course "the girls" lost, though I deem it unfair. Or I deem myself out of the game, since I only just learned the lead characters name during the game.
Thursday night I helped Sara buy a stroller and a diaper bag. For three hours, but that's okay. We found a nice, good stroller, and the most awesome diaper bag ever that I'd carry as a purse. Pierce was adorable per usual. We didn't get a chance to go to Dillards hence the need for shopping on previously mentioned Saturday.
*That link was the ONLY thing I found relating to these, and it's from *today* -- these must be REALLY new.
Congrats to anyone who made it through this entry.
