I had a very weird dream last night. Maybe because of my recent kashrut decision (to not eat fish + milk).

My mom and I were making something, and the recipe called for lobster tail. I said something to the effect of, "hey mom, this isn't kosher" and she said that it was okay because we weren't going to eat the actual lobster (this coming from the woman who in real life won't eat soy bacos). I remember looking at the lobster tail and cooking it in with the food "for the flavor."

I'm toying with the idea of not drinking water on Yom Kippur.

Lobsters, crabs, etc always looked icky to me. Like eating a cockroach, bleah.

I agree. They look gross. Shrimp look even more gross. And so does bacon.

I wonder the nature/nurture of this.

Creamed chipped beef looks nauseating to me.

I think it must be nurture. It's not like Grandma Evelyn's genes changed when she stopped eating shellfish and started keeping kosher.

We've just internalized what Mom and Dad taught us to the point where trayfe food seems disgusting.

cheeseburgers don't look inherently disgusting, nor does chicken parmesan. Of course, we can eat all those foods separately anyway.

I don't drink water, but I brush my teeth.

I normally brush my teeth three times in a regular day and only twice in the 25-26 hours that I'm fasting. Otherwise I feel guilty. My toothpaste is yummy.

I'm doing a reading during YK services at my synagogue and then leading a study session in the afternoon. I will *need* water this year. But we're doing the Break-the-Fast [tm]meal at my house and I'm making a cake in my awesome new pan made for people like me who love frosting way more than cake: www.bakersedge.com
