Many of you know that I'm been toying with a particular kashrut law for a couple of years. I never understood why it was okay to eat fish and milk but not chicken and milk. I figured that I should either eat both or neither.

Today I gave up fish and milk.

Impressive dedication. What's your reasoning? Is it that fish, like poultry, could be confused with mammal meat, or that fish and milk is itself inherently forbidden by "thou shalt not seethe a kid in it's mother's milk"?

Side thought: If rabbinic tradition (which forbids chicken and milk but allows fish and milk) is not, for you, the final authority on kashrut, what is?

Chickens don't give milk. Neither do fish. The entire erason we don't eat chicken+milk is because it "looks" like we could be doing something wrong. Fish looks like beef just as much or moreso. And it feels wrong to me.

Obviously rabbinic tradition has a say, but its personal and family tradition more than anything. I also don't eat soy bacos or veggie burgers with cheese.

No Philadelphia rolls for you! Though I have to admit, that always confused me.
