I'm going to be posting more publically now. Because the reasons for the unfriendings were not that I didn't wish others to see my entries, but because I'd rather not read theirs (currently, anyway). And also because I miss having a more public journal.

Made me think about other people who post publically but who wouldn't add me in a million years. Okay, made me think of person.

Apparently Rob is moving to Orlando. It's weird, because I'm in Orlando a lot more than I'm in Gainesville, but I'm relieved. It's like... I know he was there first and stayed longer, but it's almost if I have my turf back. The past few times I've been to/drove through G-ville, I've avoided places where I might run into him. Because, you know, he asked me never to speak to him again, and I'd like to uphold that.

Now that I know he's leaving, I have a strong desire to visit my old stomping grounds. Unfortunately much of those stomping grounds hold some fairly painful memories, but I was in Gville for almost two years before I even met Rob... soooo even though they were later tainted, I should still miss and love my CCG, Gator's Dockside, Alachua County Library, Mellow Mushroom, Butler Plaza (all of it!) definitely Publix, WaldenBooks, the DOG PARK, the Sterling hot tub, which is now the University Glades hot tub. Luckily I think I still know how to get in :). And not to mention places on campus, the potato at Turlington, the basement of the Reitz, Rawlings, Genus V Trivia Pursuit, the pool table where I practically stabbed Dustin (...), Justin's old apartment, Broward Dining, Arkadia, FYCS... I could really go on and on.

But I won't, because that's the past. And I'm really more excited about my future. And oh gosh that was lame :)

I miss the potato at Turlington too, and the Reitz basement (lots of Dnd and Tai Chi classes) and Leonardo's Pizza, and an old friend or two who might still be in town.

I wish I had a chance to go see Gainesville again. Maybe there's a conference...

Most of my friends left. There are a few still there, but not many. You probably have more friends in Gville than I do.

The Reitz for me was a place for Trivial Pursuit, pool, ice cream, and Subway sandwiches when I worked at FYCS.

Not sure. Jan the dentist-pharmacist moved to South Florida, Chris the Bahamian geologist to Jacksonville/Tally. Conrad the engineer/stalker to Massachusetts then Virginia. My friend Adam and onetime romantic interest Sarah moved together to...Tampa? I think my old roommate Ken is still in town, and maybe Mike the mosquito guy, and Jack Mecholsky and a few other engineering mentors.

Aside from seeing Mecholsky at conferences, I haven't talked to any of them in years, though. Got to send out some emails.

Ah. Jan the possibly gay kugel cooking, bowl-giving guy.

who was the guy who was Uncle Rick incarnate?

Not gay; just thin, single, and neat a la Seinfeld, fond of fine clothes* and antiques, and resignedly unsuccessful with girls. He drew dozens of beautiful, scantily-clad women for comic books. You could look at the pictures and know that the artist dreamed about these women. But in the four years I knew him, he never actually went out with a girl. He always claimed his standards were too high; that the girls he wanted never wanted a geeky guy like him. I find myself hoping that he made a few million bucks doing pharmeceutical research in Miami, so he could finally get a supermodel girlfriend.

Adam was the guy who looked like Uncle Rick. Nice guy, business major, crazy barbarian in the Amtgard boffer-sword LARP. We both ended up chasing Sarah the winter of senior year; which was fun and exciting and stressful and awkward and in the end not good for our friendship.

*I still have a shirt he gave me. It was my best long-sleeve shirt for years and years.

what!!! What happened to it? I loved that restaurant (especially with the buy one get one coupons from the back of the kash and karry receipts)

It died because it blew! :P

Turned into Mr. T's Chop House a good while back. Cheap name, fancy dining (or so it's said. Supposedly, if a lady wears a black outfit, the waiter will bring a black napkin so no white lint gets on the outfit).

Arkadia no longer exists. It's now "Mr. Chop House" or something like that. Very disappointing.

I guess this is a very late response- didn't read the other comments first. Doh!
