The dude who was found dead on his lawn in my neighborhood was not an asset [to our neighborhood], and nor was his ugly mobile-home sort of thing. He's gone, and now his sister is getting rid of the mobile home and selling the land. They're probably going to build some duplexes. Goodbye ugly and hello property value :)

Also, 2204 Mandrell Court is for sale. I just went over there and talked to the realtor for a bit. Anyone want to buy a house?

How much is it? Is it nice?

99k, new roof with a full price offer.

It's not bad. It's kind of boring. It's 914 square feet, nice privacy-fenced backyard, 2/1. It's nice and clean, new appliances, tile floors, huge master bedroom. I personally wouldn't have thought twice about saying no, but I'm weird and need a house to have character to buy it. Wouldn't be bad as a rental though.

Meh, count me out then. I'm gonna hold off buying anything till I join a PhD program. Or get a long-term job. One of the two.

Good plan. Though, its insanely a buyers market right now, and obviously when it comes to buying, the sooner the better.

Well yea but no sense in buying someplace I don't live. Though I tried to convince my mom to buy a duplex with me in Tally to be a rental like 4 years ago when interest rates were insanely low. Sadly, she said no. largely because neither of us would've had time to deal with maintenance issues.

In case you care, (and I only do because I was bored and looked it up), the MLS ID is 172292. Assuming it's linked correctly, you can look up MLS IDs here: http://tallahassee.yourkwoffice.com/frame_idx?target=idx_url_1

good grief, that's a lot of ceramic tile!
Jul. 16th, 2007 03:13 pm (UTC)
your kitchen is better. but that's really not bad for $99K!

My floors, layout, exterior, roof, and square footage are better too. Plus my backyard is bigger, even if theirs is completely privacy fenced and has grass.

And mine was technically less, even though leonpa.org doesn't say so.

Not an asset? That's kind of a harsh way to evaluate the value of human life. Or is there something I'm missing? I assume this is the same guy you mentioned http://thisgirliknow.livejournal.com/1289341.html ?

That was how the Sheriff described him when I called about the death. That he was a drug dealer and an alcoholic and "not an asset to this neighborhood"

Okay, now I can understand (somewhat). Helps to include that kind of information ;-)

Honestly I thought I had already talked about it. I'm too tired to go check, but yeah.
Jul. 16th, 2007 03:00 am (UTC)
doesn't mean he deserved to be killed! so was it a murder or what?
Jul. 16th, 2007 03:36 am (UTC)
oh my gosh! I didn't say that!!!

The autopsy hasn't come back. It's "likely" that it's alcohol poisoning or a combined drug/alcohol/organ shutdown issue.

I didn't mean you said that but it sounded like the Sheriff was telling you it wasn't all that bad that he died, because he was a bad person and not an asset. I think that's pretty low... But, it's cool that the Sheriff took your call and talked to you about it.

Glad to hear it was probably not a murder.

Glad to hear that it (probably) wasn't murder.

Side thought: We don't know everything this guy was involved in. And he was living 50 feet away. Maybe the sheriff had reasons for considering his death to be a good thing for the neighborhood.

drug dealer alcoholic were the reasons he shared with me
