I am so close to buying a permanent account. I know I wish I will have. Can I justify this?

I’d really like to buy a one. I figure it this way - I've had an LJ since 2000. If I was a paid member for all of those years, at the 12 month rate, I'd've spend just under $120. If I get another 6 years use out of the site, I'll have paid half price for the entirety of my use. Add to that all of the perks of being a paid member that I've enjoyed as an early adopter and the additional perks I'll enjoy as a paid member, and it makes a rather compelling argument for buying a permanent account.

On the other hand, let’s look at the tangible facts of my life. I drive a 1990 GMC truck that gets 18 mpg in-town and needs a tune-up. I’ve been grousing for the last year about wanting a laptop and not being able to afford one. I just bought a gym membership and spend a crap-ton of money on traveling to and fro for Colleen’s wedding.

I’m torn, too.

I just don't know if I can justify $150 on something when I have so many other bills. And then I think... well, it's like an extra electricity bill, except this one lasts... forever.

I'm really glad I bought a Perm account a few years ago.

I know I'll be mad at myself if I don't buy it. But I have almost another week to deliberate before the sale is over, so I owe it to myself to ponder-- to justify it somehow.

There's nothing in a permanent account that I need. I never need more space or userpics. So what it would be for would be status... and permanence.

How much is the yearly rate? I'd hesitate to buy a permanent account if it costs more than eight years of membership. After all, in eight years livejournal could be bought out by somebody who ruins it. Or could be superseded by some new site so much better that nobody bothers with LJ anymore.

But then I get by on a free account. If you love livejournal and want to support it as an institution, it might be worth getting a permanent account even if it doesn't save you much money.

I spend $25 a year on paid membership, but sometimes more, if I buy it in less-than-a-year at a time.

I do love LJ and want to support it.
Here's my issue.
I was glitterbug1984 for a couple days. (in 01 I think)
Gatorglitter02 for a couple months in late 02-early 03
_melissa_ for about 6 months

I've been thisgirliknow since Oct 2003. But what about when I feel a change? Then I suppose I could pay $15 for a rename token.

Never mind, its moot.

I spend $150 - $200 on things regularly. To me, it wouldn't be that much money for a permanent account. Esp, since it's a one time fee. Plus, I think it'd be cool saying "Yep I have a perm account..no no..it's not a paid account, THOSE are different."

If you REALLY want to justify it, make a savings plan. Shell out the $150 now and then save $150 over the course of the year. Each month put away $12.50 and by the end of the 12 months you'll have an extra $150. It's kind of like putting the perm account on a credit card without the interest.

Also, how long have you been thisgirliknow? A long time to me. I don't think the name change will be as big of an issue as you think.

Well, happy birthday to me - it's done.

I'm permanent.

Is $150 the price for another week only?

Do they accept payment through money order? Or am I too late to have to mail it?

$150 is the price of permanent accounts. They only go on sale every couple years, and you never know when the next sale is. This one lasts a week.
