There is an exciting turn of events tonight as Universal Studios and the people behind Harry Potter announced that there will in fact be a Harry Potter type theme park at Universal Studios (Islands of Adventure) in Orlando, Florida. This announcement confirms the rumors that have persisted for some time; now this is to be fact with the park due to open in 2010.

Hosted by production designer Stuart Craig in a special webcast for various sites including TLC, among the details revealed are:

This new theme park will include facets such as a Hogsmeade section, the Forbidden Forest, and even Hogwarts Castle where you will actually be able to walk inside a replication of the beloved castle.

J.K. Rowling is described as having been "very involved" in the creating and planning of this park since the begining.

There will be many types of rides some "intense", shopping, and more

A "British" environment is to be maintained, including the food served, and mannerisms of the staff.

The park is aimed at fans of both the movies and books, geared for fans of ages or as they said " 7 to 67"

Will incorporate elements of all the Harry Potter novels, books one through seven.

Poor 68-year-olds.

As excited as I am by this, I am worried that they can't possibly do Hogwarts justice. Will they have moving staircases?

I hope so. I don't think this is exactly low budget.

I read this post on ohnotheydidnt, but it confuses me. They're making a whole new theme park just for Harry Potter? But then it says "a new theme park at Islands of Adventure." Say what?

I heard they might be adding a ride to the Lost Continent area, but this makes it sound like it'll be something separate. Strange.

its not an entire new theme park. i think it will be more like .. well you know how Disney has "fantasyland" and "Tomorrowland" as parts of the park? I visualize it like that. Like a section devoted to HP. I forget the names of the sections in IoA

Alright, the link answered my questions. It'll be part of the Lost Continent and then some (adding on to the area). I suppose it fits, considering that Dueling Dragons is right there and it has sort of a medival/wizardry feel.

I'm just very against this for some reason. I love the idea of getting to go to Hogsmeade, but the rest seems like a bad idea. Maybe just because it doesn't seem to fit with Islands of Adventure at all...

I don't care if it fits with Islands of Adventure-- but IoA is all about heroes, and this does sort of fit in. But anyway, I'm more concerned that it won't do the HP justice, and that it'll be lame.. or that I'll hate the little kids who run in there and have no idea how cool it is to be in the HP world. But that's just my HP-elite persona talking.

On top of that, ComingSoon.net has learned that Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix has been moved up two days to July 11th.

Seems like a great time for HP fans.
