The Gods Must Be Crazy

Or I must be.

I'm actually going to get Padfoot.. groomed. My lovable, frumpy, hair-in-his-eyes fraggle of a muppet is going to look distinguished and handsome. This may be the only time I ever do this, but I want to see what he looks like.

The first place I called, Bloomingtails, says it takes about four hours, and you have to make an appointment weeks in advance if you need to come in on a Saturday. They cut, clean, and polish their nails. They groom, they bathe, they groom again, and then they do bows, and spritz him with perfume. Are you kidding? No. No no no. I will stand up for Padfoot's sexuality. I will not force him to go through that.

PetSmart sounded much better. We'll be going in on Saturday at 1:30. They'll cut his nails and groom his coat, pull out his ear-hair and express his anal glands. No bows, no perfume, no polish. Perfect.

I think petsmart is probably best too, but since when do you stand up for Padfoot's sexuality?

hey, check out "Phat Matt" halfway down the page. Suppose Padfoot looks like that underneath all the hair?? The "pre" picture looks awfully familiar.

I doubt he'd look like that underneath, but yeah, the "before" is very similar.

I think it's funny…there's a Bloomingtails there and a Groomingdales here! You better post pictures!

I never knew dogs needed their anal glands expressed.

From the description, it definitely sounds like a task I'd rather leave to a professional.

not all dogs. it's very common in cocker spaniels, which makes me think that Padfoot may be close to a cocka-poo

Groomers often express anal glands, regardless of whether they have a problem expressing themselves, as part of the bathing process because 1) it's fresher and 2) it's easy to clean while in the process of a bath. And trust me, you do NOT want to smell anal glands! It's the most...pungent smell that lingers in your memory!
