Israeli independence day is May 14th. The 60th celebration on Israel being a country is tomorrow. It's at the "other" synagogue, but I'm going. I feel such a stronger connection to the land than I used to, and I'm excited to eat falafel and Israeli salad (there, they just call it "salad" hehee). They are going to have a klezmer band and some other things too.

I cried when I heard Ben Gurion announce the independence of Israel, and hearing the story, and standing in the spot where they stood... I am really really very attached to Israel now and can't wait to celebrate.

I hope it turns out well and that our synagogue has a god showing. it makes me pretty upset that they are starting the celebration right in the middle of our Sunday School, especially since it's a joint-affair and just happens to be held there. You think they'd care.

Israeli Anniversary
Dear Melissa, maybe it will be interesting for you to look the following small funny movie dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the State of Israel. It was created by Oleg Kuvayev from St.Petersburg (Russia), who is known as the author of the animation series about Masyanya (a Russian deriv. of the name Maria). At the present time he lives in Israel, for his wife is an Israeli citizen. In this movie Masyanya says a short speech which I translate for you: "My friends! 60 years ago, on the 14th of May, David Ben Gurion proclamed the State of Israel. Hurrah, my friends!" Then Masyanya and her friends sing "Hatikva". I hope that you will like and estimate this small masterpiece.
